They are tiny bodies of various shapes distributed in the cytoplasm. Each mitochondria is bounded by a double membrane envelope. Mitochondria have their own circular DNA and 70s type ribosomes which help to make some of their own proteins. Mitochondria are absent in prokaryotes and anaerobic eukaryotes.                                                                                                 Mitochondria       # Functions of mitochondria Mitochondria are the sites of cellular respiration. During respiration, oxidation of food releases energy in the form of ATP (Adenosine triphosphate). It is known as the energy currency of the cell. Mitochondria is also known as the Powerhouse of the cell. # Plastids The term plastids was intr

It consists of a set of membrane bound, fluid filled vesicles, tubules and flattened cisternae, which are arranged in parallel to each other in stacks. These membranes often have connections with the membranes of Endoplasmic reticulum. It is found in all eukaryotic cells except in mature mammalian RBC. In plant cells, golgi apparatus is simpler and present as a single unit called dictyosomes.                                                                                          Golgi apparatus        # Functions of Golgi apparatus : Its functions involved storage, modification and packing of the products in vesicles from endoplasmic reticulum. It is also involved in the formation of lysosomes, cell walls and plasma membranes.

📚 Biology 📚                        Class - 9th📝                 Chapter - 1📝    Fundamental Unit Of Life          👉  Part - 5🏝️       ExamDeepLearning   CELL ORGANELLES   #   On the basis of number of membranous covering, cell organelles are of three types :  Double membrane bound (mitochondria and plastids). Single membrane bound (endoplasmic reticulum, Golgi apparatus, lysosomes, vacuoles). Membraneless organelles (ribosome and centrosome).      #  ENDOPLASMIC RETICULUM Endoplasmic reticulum was discovered by a porter. It is a large network of single membrane bound tubules and sheets present in the cytoplasm. The endoplasmic reticulum membrane is similar in the structure of plasma membrane. When observed under a microscope, it appears in three forms - tubules, cisternae and vesicles. One end of the endoplasmic reticulum is connected to the outer membrane of the nucleus and the other end is connected to the plasma membrane. Endoplasmic reticulum is absent in prokar

The nuclear region in these cells is not bounded by a nuclear membrane.  The membrane bound cytoplasmic organelles ( mitochondria, Golgi apparatus, endoplasmic reticulum etc. ) are also absent in prokaryotic cells. The only organelles present in them are ribosomes.                                      STRUCTURE OF BACTERIAL CELL # EUKARYOTIC CELLS : Eukaryotic cells are the cells which have a well defined nucleus. It is surrounded by a nuclear membrane. These cells contain membrane-bound cytoplasmic organelles . #  Differences between prokaryotic cell and Euka
